A Great Florida RV Campground for Biking Near Ocala

Sometimes a campground becomes part of the destination.
Other times, you simply need a great place to stay between destinations — and then you discover that the campground is worth visiting all on its own.
That was Santos Trailhead & Campground for us.
We needed somewhere to spend two nights while making our way to Rainbow River. Our campground near Rainbow River was booked until the date our reservation started, so Santos became our in-between stop.
And it turned out to be a great find.
If you enjoy bicycling, mountain biking or exploring Florida by RV, Santos Trailhead & Campground near Ocala, Florida, deserves a spot on your list.
Where Is Santos Trailhead & Campground?
Santos Trailhead & Campground is located just south of Ocala and is part of the Marjorie Harris Carr Cross Florida Greenway.
The Greenway stretches for roughly 110 miles across North Central Florida and contains nearly 300 miles of recreational trails for hiking, biking, horseback riding, paddling and other activities.
Santos is especially well known for one thing:
Bicycling.
In fact, Florida State Parks describes Santos as a "mecca for mountain biking," with more than 80 miles of single-track mountain biking trails ranging from beginner routes to challenging expert terrain.
But don't let the words mountain biking scare you away if you are more of a recreational cyclist like we are.
There is something here for us, too!
You Don't Have to Be a Mountain Biker to Ride at Santos
We enjoy riding our bikes, but you aren't going to find Guy and me flying over jumps or tackling extreme mountain bike trails anytime soon.
Thankfully, we didn't have to.
Santos also provides access to a beautiful 16-mile paved multi-use trail running between Santos Trailhead and State Road 200.
That's where we rode.
The paved trails we experienced were smooth, well maintained and really enjoyable to ride. We could simply hop on our bikes and explore without having to load them into a vehicle and drive somewhere first.
That is probably our favorite thing about camping at Santos.
The biking is right there.
For more serious mountain bikers, Santos offers an entirely different experience with single-track trails, wooden features, a skills park, a pump track and the Vortex Freeride area.
Whether you want a leisurely paved ride or a serious mountain biking adventure, there is a trail here for you.
What Is the Santos Campground Like?
Santos isn't a huge RV resort — and we liked that about it.
The campground has just 25 campsites, giving it a smaller, quieter feel.
Sites have:
- Water hookups
- Electric hookups
- Picnic areas nearby
- Access to a bathhouse
- Access to a dump station
There are no sewer hookups at the individual campsites, so you'll want to plan to use the campground's dump station.
We travel in a large Class A motorhome, so we're always paying attention to whether a campground will work for a bigger rig.
We had no problem with our Palisade.
Our site had plenty of room for us, making Santos a good option to investigate if you're traveling in a larger RV. As always, check the dimensions and details of the individual site you're considering before booking because campsite sizes can vary.
How Much Does It Cost to Camp at Santos Trailhead?
Another big plus for Santos is the price.
At the time of our visit in the summer of 2026, the regular camping rate was:
Standard campsite: $22 per night plus tax
RV utility fee: $7 per night
Reservation fee: $6.70 per reservation
Because Guy qualifies for the Florida resident senior camping discount, our base campsite fee was reduced by 50%.
We paid:
Discounted campsite: $11 per night
Utility fee: $7 per night
Reservation fee: $6.70
The Florida resident senior discount applies to the base campsite fee. The reservation and utility fees are not discounted.
Florida residents age 65 and older may qualify for the 50% campsite discount with proof of eligibility. Certain Florida residents with qualifying disability documentation may also be eligible.
Rates, fees and discount policies can change, so check the current information before making your reservation.

A Perfect Two-Night Stop on Our Way to Rainbow River
One reason I wanted to review Santos is because not every RV stop has to be a major destination.
Sometimes you need somewhere convenient to stay for a night or two between reservations.
That's exactly what happened to us.
We were headed to Rainbow River, but we couldn't get into our next campground until our reservation date.
Instead of treating those two days like dead time, we booked Santos.
It gave us a comfortable place for the RV, some fantastic bike riding and easy access to another place we wanted to explore:
Historic Downtown Ocala.
Exploring Historic Downtown Ocala
Since we had some extra time, we headed into downtown Ocala and spent part of the day walking around.
And we're glad we did.
Historic Downtown Ocala is a charming little side trip with its town square, historic architecture, restaurants, shops and that wonderful Old Florida downtown feeling.
It was an easy way to turn what could have been a simple travel day into another part of our adventure.
That's something we're learning more and more as we travel by RV:
Some of the best stops are the ones you weren't originally planning to make.
What We Liked About Santos Trailhead & Campground
There were several things that made Santos a great short stay for us:
✓ Fantastic access to biking
You can access the trail system right from the Santos area.
✓ A paved option for recreational riders
You don't need to be an experienced mountain biker to enjoy biking here.
✓ Small campground
With only 25 campsites, Santos has a much different feel than a large RV resort.
✓ Water and electric hookups
We had the hookups we needed for our two-night stay.
✓ Dump station
Since campsites don't have sewer hookups, having a dump station on-site is important.
✓ Big-rig friendly for us
We were able to comfortably stay here with our large Class A Palisade.
✓ Affordable Florida camping
Especially with Guy's Florida resident senior discount, this was an inexpensive stop.
✓ Close to Ocala
We were able to spend part of our stay exploring historic downtown Ocala.
✓ Convenient for our Rainbow River trip
It worked perfectly as a two-night stop while we waited for our next reservation.
Would We Stay at Santos Trailhead & Campground Again?
Absolutely — especially if we wanted to spend some time biking.
Santos wasn't originally meant to be one of the big destinations on our trip.
We simply needed somewhere to stay for two days before heading to Rainbow River.
But that's part of what made this campground such a nice surprise.
We got to ride our bikes on beautiful paved trails, explore a campground we hadn't previously considered and spend some time walking around historic Ocala.
If you're traveling through Central Florida in your RV — particularly if you love biking — Santos Trailhead & Campground is worth checking out.
Sometimes the place you book because you need somewhere to stay ends up becoming a place you're really glad you found.
